## Are you sure that your motorbike brakes well as should?

Let’s do an experiment that you can also try at home (if you try remember to do it on a safe and far away from traffic street): suppose you have drawn a line on the ground, take a straight stretch with the bike and get to brake at a certain speed above the line marked on the ground until you stop completely.

Now measure the distance between where the bike was stopped and the position of the line. Then repeat the experiment with the same speed and braking with the same power on the same line, then measure the distance travelled by the bike at each test. Repeating the experiment several times
you will notice that as the braking system heats up this distance will increase.

## Let’s get clear about it!

In FreeSpirits’ kit for Harley Davidson XG Street Rod there are two floating type brake discs, with hardened brake band in full-thickness. The hub and buttons are in ergal, in order to reduce their weight and still have a considerable resistance to stress.

What are floating discs? These discs consist of a braking band connected by means of the driving bushes to the hub which is connected to the front rim by means of bolts.

### Have you ever thought about how important is the braking system of your bike?

Whenever we decide to upgrade our bike we want to have more performance, new exhaust system and more engine power, but we do not think that then we must stop the bike with all that power.

Today we will see what are the most important parameters in a brake system: braking power, modulation and fatigue.

When we brake decisively with the front brake, on the front wheel there is a load of about 40% of rider and motorcycle weight. The friction between the front wheel and the asphalt depends proportionally on the load on the front wheel. So, if we brake decisively when the load is only 40% of the total weight, the front wheel can be blocked. In this case, the braking limit is given by the grip of the tire on the ground. The friction at this time will be quite low, because we did not give time to the fork to compress. If we give time to the fork to compress, part of the load at the rear will move to the front.

## A history of competitions that we want to remember…

The Sportster is one of the longest and most famous models of the Harley-Davidson family. Produced for more than 60 years, is still sold today with the same name, a recognizable aesthetic and the same mechanics, although improved and perfected over time.

## Check this! Maybe we have a solution for you!

All the Harley’s fans, and not only them, will certainly know the Harley Davidson Dyna, a motorcycle with an indisputable charm that has made many riders fall in love, but it also has a problem known to all owners of this magnificent motorcycle made in the USA.

## An upgrade to make your suspensions similar to a race bike with less money.

We all know, our bike is not really ours until we customize it. When we decide to have more performances we usually buy some expensive products, like sports exhausts, additional control unit, more powerful braking systems or something like that, but we often do not consider a fundamental component: the suspensions. If you pay attention, when constructors create a track model, they always change suspensions.

## Here some maintenance tips to keep front end in the best possible conditions!

Have you ever note some wobbling or other abnormal behavior? Have you ever been in the situation that you have to change your forks, but you did not do it because it’s too expensive? Maybe your problem can be solved in a cheaper way.

## Changing the handlebars in springer forks has usually been complicated and expensive … until now!

The Springer Forks have an unmistakable charm, which gives that retro look to our Harley Davidson, but there is an “uncomfortable” detail that arises every time someone is willing to customize his driving style: the replacement of the handlebars.
